Durex Started A Condom Delivery Service In Dubai - Business Insider

durex condom deliveryInspired by the pizza industry, Durex launched a delivery service that will get condoms to couples in need within an hour, between 4 p.m. and 4 a.m.

Unfortunately only available in Dubai for a test run, the "SOS Condoms" app promises to deliver the goods "quickly and discreetly." If the company's ad is accurate, your deliveryman might come disguised as a pizza guy, lost tourist, or cop.

Already, 12,512 people have downloaded the app and are voting on the city that gets the service next.

But the NY Daily News reports that if you go to the College of New Jersey, there's already a small service called ConAm (Condom Ambulance) that delivers condoms to students around campus.

Laser Focus On Your Target Audience With Ppc Advertising | THMG ...

Advertising in online media has some definite advantages over offline media in terms of cost, reach, interactivity, targeting the right markets and measuring responses. This is why internet advertising is now becoming hot property for marketers!

Of all advertising (telemarketing, magazine advertising, newspapers, radio, TV, banner ads, email marketing, etc.), PPC advertising provides the most qualified leads and is proven to have the highest sales conversion rate. This is because, unlike other forms of advertising, your ad is only displayed when your prospective customer is searching for your products or services. This is why nearly 40% of all online advertisements are now pay per click campaigns.

The trend of advertisements within the online medium is fast changing too. While search engine optimisation is becoming vital for making your website emerge above competition, pay per click advertising is providing a very cost effective means to reach your target audience.

According to The Kelsey Group and ConStat, Inc, small-business PPC advertisers currently allocate on average 23% of their total advertising budget to PPC activities. Of these, 54% expect to increase their PPC spending the next year. Paid search has undoubtedly become the hottest means of online advertising.

What is a PPC Ad
Pay per click campaigns (PPC) are defined as the guaranteed placement of a small ?ad? on the search results page for a specific keyword or keywords. Your PPC ads are displayed when a user searches for your services/products. This means PPC ads are targeting those customers who

Asian shares up, cautious before Fed, U.S. data

TOKYO (Reuters) - Asian shares rose on Tuesday after solid U.S. data, but investors remained cautious ahead of more U.S. economic reports and a Federal Reserve policy decision later in the week that may offer clues to the Fed's stimulus plans.

The MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan <.miapj0000pus> was up 0.3 percent.

Australian shares <.axjo> rallied 0.8 percent to a fresh 21-month high led by shares in the financials sectors as the U.S. S&P 500 index closed above 1,500 for the first time since 2007. Australian markets were closed on Monday for a holiday.

South Korean shares <.ks11> opened up 0.3 percent after touching an 8-week low the day before.

The benchmark Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.spx> eased slightly on Monday after an eight-day winning run but held above 1,500, after closing above it on Friday for the first time in more than five years.

Risk appetite has been improving overall with U.S. earnings generally solid. A rise in a gauge of planned U.S. business spending in December added to a recent run of positive global economic data, and signs of easing financial stress in the euro zone. Euro zone blue chips touched fresh 18-month peaks on Monday.

More solid U.S. growth indicators would, however, fuel speculation the Fed may mull pulling back on aggressive easing stimulus. The Fed ends a two-day policy meeting on Wednesday. The first estimate of U.S. fourth-quarter gross domestic product will be released on Wednesday, followed by non-farm payrolls on Friday.

"Ahead of key events, markets are likely to stay in ranges. But with yields on U.S. Treasury and German government bonds inching higher, one might say investors may be shifting funds to riskier assets from safe-havens," said Yuji Saito, director of foreign exchange at Credit Agricole in Tokyo.

"That's part of the reason why the euro has stayed firm," he said. Saito said while a rise in U.S. yields underpins the dollar against the yen, they were likely to be capped with end-month selling from exporters and options lined up between 90.50 and 91.50 yen.

The benchmark U.S. 10-year note briefly pierced 2 percent on Monday for the first time since last April.

Japan's Nikkei stock average <.n225> opened down 0.7 percent after striking a fresh 32-month high above 11,000 on Monday. <.t/>

The dollar fell 0.3 percent to 90.53 yen after touching 91.32 on Monday, its highest level since June 2010, while the euro also eased 0.3 percent to 121.75 yen from Monday's high of 122.91, its highest point since April.

Harbaugh parents could become Super Bowl TV stars

NEW YORK (AP) ? Jack and Jackie Harbaugh would do well to practice their impassive faces in front of a mirror before the Super Bowl.

The parents of Baltimore Ravens coach John and the San Francisco 49ers' Jim Harbaugh will be watched closely during Sunday's Super Bowl ? if anybody finds them ? for any visual evidence that mommy and daddy really do love one boy or the other best.

It promises to be a fascinating sidebar to CBS' coverage of the game because, as Lynn and Rick Raisman can attest, parent cams are valuable in sports coverage. NBC's clip of the Raismans watching daughter Aly perform on the uneven bars during last summer's Olympics in London went viral, with stage parents everywhere relating to their murmurs and facial contortions.

"I had no idea it was going to be so great," said David Michaels, senior producer at NBC Sports, who often produces and directs coverage of gymnastics and figure skating, events where parental involvement can be particularly intense.

Michaels makes it a point to know where parents are sitting during competitions, tracking them through spotters or sometimes sports governing bodies that know where parent seats have been assigned. Or where they are not sitting: Sometimes a dad who retreats to a concession stand because he can't bear to watch an offspring compete is a good story, too.

Michaels said he tries not to overdo it, sticking with parents who he knows are interesting and very involved in their children's competitive undertakings.

"It has certainly gotten more ubiquitous," he said. "Sometimes it's fantastic and sometimes it's just too gratuitous."

Jack, a former college and high school football coach, and his wife will be attending the Super Bowl. On a conference call last week, the parents said they did not know where they would be sitting. Even if they did, they'd be unlikely to inform a horde of reporters about their seat locations.

The senior Harbaugh was a college head coach at Western Michigan and Western Kentucky and an assistant at several places, including Michigan, Pittsburgh and Stanford. His son-in-law, Tom Crean, is the Indiana University men's basketball coach. It doesn't seem like a family that would want to watch a game casually while piling their plates with nachos.

The couple had a practice run to see what it would be like to watch their sons coach against each other on Thanksgiving 2011, when older brother John's Ravens beat the 49ers 16-6.

During that game, the couple watched in an office. Jack said his wife's face looked "nearly comatose" throughout the contest.

"She just stared at the screen," he said. "Not a word was spoken. And at the end of the game, it was just over."

They'll experience the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat ? all at once. A 75-yard touchdown pass that would be reason to stand up and cheer for one son is another son's horrible defensive lapse.

"I am going to be neutral in the game," Jackie Harbaugh said. "I know one is going to win and one is going to lose, but I would really like to end in a tie. Can the NFL do that?"

CBS Sports President Sean McManus said there will be a pregame feature about the familial battle. It would be hard to argue otherwise; no matter how much the brothers want to downplay it, it's a unique situation. But McManus said CBS would try not to let it dominate its coverage of the game.

Given the need for the coaches' parents to stay neutral, longtime TV critic David Bianculli said he wondered how much of a story it will be visually for CBS. If they really maintain impassive faces, how much will viewers want to see them on the screen?

"I would advise them to pay attention to the field, more than anything else," said Bianculli, who teaches about television for Rowan University.

A stone face is a story, too, Michaels said. The only question is how much a producer should go back to the shot.

He said he can't imagine CBS not knowing where the couple is. If they're out in public, the network will likely keep a close eye on their reactions.

"As a producer or a director in this kind of a situation, it's incumbent upon you to know where every element of the story is because you never know how it's going to evolve," Michaels said.

Finding the right approach ultimately shouldn't be much of a problem for CBS, he said.

"It's a little bit of a distraction at times," he said. "But they'll figure out the best way to deal with it. The pictures won't lie."

Unpopular Dog Names: Monikers For Pets That Are No Longer Cool

From Vetstreet's Kristen Seymour:

Just as today?s second-grade classrooms are no longer filled to the brim with Jennifers and Jasons, the dog names that were most popular a decade or two ago are no longer at the head of the class.

After checking out the most popular and trendiest puppy names, we decided to try something different and determine which names are on the other end of current trends. Using Vetstreet?s data on close to 1.26 million dogs, we took a peek at which names have fallen in popularity since 2003. Here are the 10 male and 10 female dog names that have fallen the farthest in the past decade.

List and captions courtesy of Vetstreet

  • #10 Sammy (Male) / Shadow (Female)

Sammy was the No. 24 most popular male dog name a decade ago and fell to No. 66 last year. It?s worth noting that Sam is also losing popularity, falling from No. 14 to No. 35 over the same period of time. Shadow, which came in as the No. 51 most popular female dog name in 2003, has now fallen to No. 87.

  • #9 Smokey (Male) / Madison (Female)

Smokey hasn?t fallen out of the top 100, but after going from No. 43 to No. 87 over the last decade, it still earned a spot on this list. Madison, the No. 62 female dog name in 2003, dropped out of the top 100 in 2009. Its nickname, Maddie, has also lost popularity but at a slower pace.

  • #8 Luke (Male) / Sheba (Female)

Although Luke was the No. 56 most popular name for male dogs in 2003, it fell out of the top 100 in 2012. Sheba, a name that fell off the list of most popular female dog names in 2009, came in at No. 61 back in 2003.

  • #7 Scooby (Male) / Casey (Female)

Scooby (Dooby Doo), where are you? Not in the top 100 anymore. After coming in at No. 53 in 2003, the name of one of pop culture?s favorite pups fell out of the top 100 in 2008. Casey, which was the No. 58 most popular female name a decade ago, also fell off the most popular names list in 2008.

  • #6 Rusty (Male) / Heidi (Female)

Rusty had a home on the list of 20 most popular names a decade ago, coming in at No. 16, but last year it dropped to No. 63. Heidi is still in the top 100 most popular female dog names ? but only just, coming in at No. 92 after holding the No. 50 spot in 2003.

  • #5 Joey (Male) / Lucky (Female)

Joey, the No. 52 most popular male dog name in 2003, fell out of the top 100 in 2012, earning it the No. 5 spot on this list. Lucky was the No. 56 most popular female dog name in 2003 but dropped off the list in 2010.

  • #4 Spike (Male) / Katie (Female)

Spike has fallen drastically in popularity in the past decade, going from No. 29 in 2003 to No. 81 in 2012. Katie saw a similar drop, beginning at No. 33 a decade ago, then falling to No. 82 last year.

  • #3 Rudy (Male) / Misty (Female)

Rudy was in the top half of most popular names in 2003, coming in at No. 47, but fell out of the top 100 last year. After holding the No. 48 spot in 2003, Misty dropped off the 100 most popular names list in 2011.

  • #2 Dakota (Male) / Holly (Female)

Dakota, the No. 43 most popular male dog name in 2003, comes in second on our list after dropping out of the top 100 in 2009. Holly, the second least trendy female dog name, has a similar story, claiming No. 45 in 2003 and falling off the list of most popular names in 2012.

  • #1 Scooter (Male) / Brandy (Female)

Scooter earned the top spot on this list by declining the most in popularity over the past decade, falling from No. 34 on the list of most popular male dog names in 2003 to No. 98 in 2012. Brandy takes No. 1 for females on the least popular list, starting at No. 42 in 2003 and falling out of the top 100 in 2011.

Jeff Reed of Virginia Tech is the recipient of the 2012 Forum International Achievement Award for significant contributions to the further development of software designed radio and cognitive radio

The recipient of the 2012 Forum International Achievement Award for significant contributions to the further development of software designed radio and cognitive radio, presented at the Wireless Innovation Forum in January, is Jeffrey H. Reed, a Chaired Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech.

Reed, director of Wireless@Virginia Tech, a research center that is part of the University's Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Science, was cited for his leading role, along with his colleagues, in the research and academic collaboration in this part of the wireless spectrum.

The leaders of the forum also credited Reed for his leadership in developing academic programs for undergraduates and graduates in this area, and for influencing a number of these Virginia Tech graduates to become entrepreneurs, developing their own companies. Among these companies are: Power Fingerprinting, a cyber security company; Cognitive Radio Technologies, a company that is developing approaches to adding intelligence to radio systems; and Allied Communication, developing next generation technologies for wireless communications.

Wireless research at Virginia Tech has its origins in the late 1960s, and the work of this group in this burgeoning field has served as the technological basis for companies such as Direct TV, Iridium Satellite, and Globalstar.

A defining moment for the Virginia Tech wireless group came in 1993 when Reed was one of the researchers to land the group's first major funding from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), a $1.7 million contract to develop a revolutionary approach to wireless communications. Reed and his colleagues combined new technologies in computer chips, antennas, and digital signal processing in a novel way, eventually allowing wireless devices to be extremely small, yet able to adapt to interference in a radio channel.

They accomplished their goals and showed an order of magnitude increase in the number of radio devices that could share a single radio frequency, thereby increasing the capacity of wireless users in a specific region of space. This award started the long-standing relationship between Virginia Tech and DARPA that remains in place today.

Most recently, Reed was one of the invited technical experts who submitted a report in 2012 to President Barack Obama on realizing the full potential of government held spectrum to spur economic growth. In a synopsis, Reed and the other members of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology Working Group developed a plan for securing more spectrum as a catalyst for growing the economy, while also guaranteeing that the national security and public safety sectors have the spectrum they need to maintain and advance their missions. Currently the FCC is in the process of adopting many of the report's recommendations.

In just two years, the astonishing growth of mobile information technology exemplified by smartphones, tablets, and many other devices has only made the demands on access to spectrum more urgent, the panel wrote. Their report responds to the challenges and opportunities that have arisen since Obama requested in a presidential memorandum in 2010 that 500 megahertz of spectrum be made available for commercial use with in 10 years.

Reed is a three-time graduate of the University of California, Davis, receiving his bachelor's, master's and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering.

Panetta: Women are integral to military's success

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, in lifting a ban on women serving in combat, said women have become integral to the military's success and have shown they are willing to fight and die alongside their male counterparts.

"The time has come for our policies to recognize that reality," Panetta said Thursday at a Pentagon news conference with Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Panetta said that not all women will be able to meet the qualifications to be a combat soldier.

"But everyone is entitled to a chance," he said.

He said the qualifications will not be lowered, and with women playing a broader role, the military will be strengthened.

Panetta said that his visits to Afghanistan and Iraq to see U.S. forces in action demonstrated to him that women should have a chance to perform combat duties if they wish, and if they can meet the qualifications.

"Our military is more capable, and our force is more powerful, when we use all of the great diverse strengths of the American people," Panetta said earlier Thursday at a Pentagon ceremony in remembrance of Martin Luther King Jr.

Panetta is expected to step down as Pentagon chief sometime in February. Republican Former Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska has been nominated as his successor, and his Senate confirmation hearing is scheduled for Jan. 31.

"Every person in today's military has made a solemn commitment to fight, and if necessary to die, for our nation's defense," he said. "We owe it to them to allow them to pursue every avenue of military service for which they are fully prepared and qualified. Their career success and their specific opportunities should be based solely on their ability to successfully carry out an assigned mission. Everyone deserves that chance."

The decision to lift the ban on women serving in combat presents a daunting challenge to top military leaders who now will have to decide which, if any, jobs they believe should be open only to men.

Panetta planned to announce at a Pentagon news conference that more than 230,000 battlefront posts ? many in Army and Marine infantry units and in potentially elite commando jobs ? are now open to women. It will be up to the military service chiefs to recommend and defend whether women should be excluded from any of those more demanding and deadly positions, such as Navy SEALs or the Army's Delta Force.

The historic change, which was recommended by the Joint Chiefs of Staff, overturns a 1994 rule prohibiting women from being assigned to smaller ground combat units.

The change won't take place overnight: Service chiefs will have to develop plans for allowing women to seek the combat positions, a senior military official said. Some jobs may open as soon as this year, while assessments for others, such as special operations forces, may take longer. The services will have until January 2016 to make a case to that some positions should remain closed to women.

Officials briefed The Associated Press on the changes Wednesday on condition of anonymity so they could speak ahead of the official announcement.

There long has been opposition to putting women in combat, based on questions of whether they have the necessary strength and stamina for certain jobs, or whether their presence might hurt unit cohesion.

But as news of Panetta's expected order got out, many members of Congress, including the Senate Armed Services Committee chairman, Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., announced their support.

"It reflects the reality of 21st century military operations," Levin said.

Objections were few. Jerry Boykin, executive vice president of the Family Research Council, called the move "another social experiment" that will place unnecessary burdens on military commanders.

"While their focus must remain on winning the battles and protecting their troops, they will now have the distraction of having to provide some separation of the genders during fast-moving and deadly situations," said Boykin, a retired Army lieutenant general. He noted that small units often are in sustained combat for extended periods of time under primal living conditions with no privacy.

Panetta's move comes in his final weeks as Pentagon chief and just days after President Barack Obama's inaugural speech in which he spoke passionately about equal rights for all. The new order expands the department's action of nearly a year ago to open about 14,500 combat positions to women, nearly all of them in the Army.

In addition to questions of strength and performance, there also have been suggestions that the American public would not tolerate large numbers of women being killed in war.

Under the 1994 Pentagon policy, women were prohibited from being assigned to ground combat units below the brigade level. A brigade is roughly 3,500 troops split into several battalions of about 800 soldiers each. Historically, brigades were based farther from the front lines, and they often included top command and support staff.

The necessities of combat in Iraq and Afghanistan, however, propelled women into jobs as medics, military police and intelligence officers that were sometimes attached ? but not formally assigned ? to battalions. So while a woman couldn't be assigned as an infantryman in a battalion going out on patrol, she could fly the helicopter supporting the unit, or move in to provide medical aid if troops were injured.

And these conflicts, where battlefield lines are blurred and insurgents can lurk around every corner, have made it almost impossible to keep women clear of combat.

Still, as recent surveys and experiences have shown, it will not be an easy transition. When the Marine Corps sought women to go through its tough infantry course last year, two volunteered, and both failed to complete the course. And there may not be a wide clamoring from women for the more intense, dangerous and difficult jobs, including some infantry and commando positions.

Two lawsuits were filed last year challenging the Pentagon's ban on women serving in combat, adding pressure on officials to overturn the policy. And the military services have been studying the issue and surveying their forces to determine how it may affect performance and morale.

The Joint Chiefs have been meeting regularly on the matter, and they unanimously agreed to send the recommendation to Panetta earlier this month.

A senior military official familiar with the discussions said the chiefs laid out three main principles to guide them as they move through the process. Those were to maintain America's effective fighting force, preserve military readiness and develop a process that would give all service members the best chance to succeed.

Women comprise about 14 percent of the 1.4 million active military personnel. More than 280,000 women have been sent to Iraq, Afghanistan or to jobs in neighboring nations in support of the wars. Of the more than 6,600 U.S. service members who have been killed, 152 have been women.

The senior military official said the military chiefs must report back to Panetta with their initial implementation plans by May 15.

Greek riot police break up striking subway workers' sit-in

ATHENS (Reuters) - Greek riot police stormed a subway train depot in Athens early on Friday to disperse striking subway staff who defied a government order to return to work for a ninth consecutive day, a police official said.

Scuffles broke out when police forced their way through a metal gate shortly after 4 a.m. (0200 GMT) and detained at least 10 workers, the official said on condition of anonymity. One woman was taken to hospital with light injuries, he added.

The escalating standoff has turned into the latest test for Greece's fragile coalition as it faces down the unions to implement austerity measures demanded by foreign lenders as the price for bailout funds.

Subway workers have ignored the order, issued under emergency legislation by the conservative-led government on Thursday, paralyzing the Athens subway in a week-long walkout.

About 90 workers stayed at the train depot overnight in protest. The subway workers, who have defied a court order to return to work, oppose being included in a unified wage scheme for public sector workers that would slash their salaries.

Bus and railway workers are joining the walkout on Friday in solidarity.

Under the emergency law, workers can face arrest and up to five years in jail. No arrests have been made so far, the official said.

Sickening fog settles over Salt Lake City area

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) ? Michelle Francis keeps one eye on Utah's air quality index and the other on her 9-year-old daughter's chronic asthma these days. The air pollution is so awful in her Salt Lake City suburb that Francis keeps her daughter indoors on many days to prevent her cough from being aggravated.

"When you add all the gunk in the air, it's too much," Francis said.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has singled out the greater Salt Lake region as having the nation's worst air for much of January, when an icy fog smothers mountain valleys for days or weeks at a time and traps lung-busting soot.

The pollution has turned so bad that more than 100 Utah doctors called Wednesday on authorities to immediately lower highway speed limits, curb industrial activity and make mass transit free for the rest of winter. Doctors say the microscopic soot ? a shower of combustion particles from tailpipe and other emissions ? can tax the lungs of even healthy people.

"We're in a public-health emergency for much of the winter," said Brian Moench, a 62-year-old anesthesiologist and president of Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment, which delivered the petition demanding action at the Utah Capitol.

The greater Salt Lake region had up to 130 micrograms of soot per cubic meter on Wednesday, or more than three times the federal clean-air limit, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

That's equivalent to a bad day in the Los Angeles area.

For 2 million Utah residents, there is no escape except to the snow-capped mountains that gleam in the sunshine thousands of feet higher, or to resort towns like Park City, where the Sundance Film Festival is under way.

"I wish there was something we could do about it," Francis, a school teacher 10 miles north of Salt Lake City, said.

Authorities have prohibited wood burning and urged people to limit driving. Vehicle emissions account for more than half of the trapped pollutants.

Utah regulators are working on a set of plans to limit everyday emissions, including a measure to ban the sale of aerosol deodorants and hair spray that contain hydrocarbon propellants. Those plans, however, will take years to show results.

Doctors say people ? especially pregnant women and children ? should stay indoors, or at least avoid active outdoor exercise under the sickening yellowish haze. Elderly people with heart disease are most at risk, Moench said.

"If you can see it, you don't want to breathe it. Think about what's going into your body," Salt Lake City pediatrician Ellie Brownstein said. "It's essentially like smoking. Instead of breathing clean air, you're breathing particles that make it harder for your lungs to function and get oxygen."

Snow cover amplifies the phenomena called a temperature inversion ? Salt Lake City was a foggy freezer box Wednesday at 18 degrees, while Park City basked in sunny 43-degree weather. The warmer air aloft acted like a lid on the frigid valley air, leaving it with no place to go.

For weeks, industrialized cities in northern China have been dealing with bouts of sickening smog several times more toxic than Utah's. But by U.S. standards, Utah's pollution index is off the charts with readings routinely exceeding a scale that tops out at 70 micrograms a cubic meter. The EPA sets a standard for clean air at no more than 35 micrograms.

"People think the health implications are limited to asthma ? that's only a drop in the bucket," Moench said. "For every pregnant woman breathing this stuff, this is a threat to her fetus through chromosome damage. It sets people up for a lifelong propensity for all sorts of diseases."

Tree Climbing Supplies And Their Identities

Need help on climbing trees? Why not try tree climbing supplies? Supplies are the vital necessities offered to climbers in promoting easier and effortless climbing of trees. It provides mechanical help and solution for common hindrance encountered by climbers. Most of the climbers only own three basic equipment (such as the rope, helmet and rope grabs); without knowing that there are other equipment that may help them in climbing trees. Tree climbing supplies may include the following: Ascenders, Binders & Snaps, Eye Slings & Tails Friction, Savers Gear Storage, Helmets & Gloves, Lanyards & Flip lines, Rings, Pulleys and tree boats.

Ascender is the equipment that helps in advancing your position while climbing. It may include equipment such as Rope grabs, Handle ascender, motorized ascender and foot ascender.

Rope grab is the most basic and the oldest ascender in the market today. It usually takes lots of effort and energy from the climber
Handle ascender are customized with handles that grasps the rope for manual holding of the position or aids into flowing freely down the rope.
Motorized ascender provides effortless lifting and less energy consumption climbing through the use of motor pulleys.
Foot ascender acts like ladder where it provides a step-on device to ascend to high part of trees. It maintains tension on rope to prevent unnecessary efforts.

Binders and Snaps are the locking mechanisms intended for climbing ropes and cables. Its maximum breaking capacity should be at 5000 lbs. Common types of Binders and Snaps are auto-locking, screw-locking and Rope snaps.

Auto-locking involves three required motions to open or free the rope from its locking. Screw locking involves two required motions (one is turning motion) to open the lock. Rope snaps involve one required motion to open lock. It is not recommended for application on main lines.

Eye slings and Tails Friction is the supply used to anchor the main lines of ropes while providing adjustments for the lanyards. It can either be open-end loop or close end loop depending on tree care or preference of climber.

Saver Gear storage is the bag intended for storing the tree climbing supplies and ropes used in tree climbing. Most climbers separate their rope bag from their accessory bag for easy accessibility and neater arrangement of climbing tools.

Helmets and Gloves are usually categorized as part of climbing clothes since it provides protection on the hands and head. Sudden tree climbing injury on head and hands are usually caused by non-protective equipment. Helmets are designed for the protection of the head while gloves are designed to avoid wood cut and puncture in the fingers.

Lanyards and Fliplines are cords or ropes worn around the object. This is utilized to lift specimens, accessories or even additional ropes for higher altitudes of climbing.

Rings are devices that act as binders wherein it attaches two ropes without the use of locking mechanism. It can also act as pulley wherein ropes are put inside the rings then its tied through by a knot to form a two-way string weight lifter.

TV Batmobile Sells for $4,620,000 - the Car News In One

The 1960s was a different time in the super hero community. Citizens could go go dance with their favourite good guys. Crime fighters were able to battle unarmed henchmen with the accompaniment of music and wacky screen captions. A public in general would blindly trust supervillains to the point of knowingly sell military equipment (such as a submarine). Finally yet importantly, a man dressed in a costume could run around a city in daylight alongside a costumed boy without anyone suspecting something inappropriate was taking place.

However, the 1960s super hero was also permitted to have a sharp looking automobile with a full array of crime fighting tools. In the mid 1960s TV series Batman, the caped crusader and his heroic companion Robin rode in the most famous customized Lincoln ever built. A car originally created from a Ghia designed 1950s show car called the Lincoln Futura, the television shows vehicle was modified by legendary automotive customizer George Barris. Buying the show car from Ford Motor Company for only a dollar, Harris added many of his own touches (including a metal pail to represent a turbine jet port to create the iconic Batmobile. Running for 120 episodes between 1966 and 1968 with a full length movie added for good measure, the George Barris designed Batmobile remains a favorite among fans even as several new iterations at the vehicle appeared in media.

Since the television network ABC would only rent the Batmobile from George Barris, the customizer retained ownership of the creation when the show went off the air. At the 2013 Barrett Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, the vehicle would change hands for the first time in almost 50 years.

Attracting an immediate buzz prior to the sale at Barrett Jackson, the Saturday night auction of the most famous Batmobile lured a massive scene fit for the guardians of Gotham City. As The Batmobile was wheeled onto the Barrett Jackson auction stage, it came apparent that the vehicle was unlike any other. A sea of people surrounded the actual television used Batmobile and its ultimate creator George Barris who rode onto the auction stage inside the vehicle (perhaps for the final time). With a bang, bidding rocketed past the million dollar mark and it was not long until the Batmobile flew into the multiple million range.

Before the auction, it was noted the Batmobile was selling as a reserve lot (meaning bids needed to meet or exceed a minimum amount in order to sell). Shortly after the Batmobile received a 2.7 million dollar bid, it was announced that the auction lots reserve was lifted. When the auctioneers hammer fell, the dark knights 1960s Batmobile sold for $4,200,000 (becoming a $4,620,000 vehicle once the buyers commission was tabulated).

After the auction, an interview with the new owner of the famous TV series Batmobile stated his plans were to display the vehicle in his living room. Unclear whether he was joking, the comment does fit nicely in the light hearted content Adam West and Burt Ward delivered as the caped crusaders in the mid 1960s.

Crazy House Reviews: Baby Showers for Couples

Boring, traditional baby showers are a thing of the past and more and more families are opting for baby showers for couples. I think this is a great idea as I have often wondered if Dads might feel a little left out considering they do play a huge part in the creation of a child! ?

Games:

Bottle Drinkers: Line the Dads up and give them all a bottle filled with any type of beverage. See which dad-to-be can guzzle it down the fastest. I stumbled across a site a couple of weeks ago that had a six pack of beer container decorated and they filled it with baby bottles filled with beer. I thought it was super cute and funny! You can fill them with whatever you want though. These would be cute sitting on the tables until game time!?

Diaper Relay-See which guests can diaper a baby the quickest. You can also use bags of flour if you don't have a doll. To make it really fun, use cloth diapers instead of disposable!?

Guess the Baby Food: Pass jars of baby food down the line of blind-folded contestants and see who knows their stuff!?

Baby Poop Game: Melt different kinds of candy bars onto the insides of disposable diapers and have guests pass them around and smell them to try and guess what kind of candy bar it is.?

Diaper Raffle: Tell guests to bring a pack of diapers to the shower to be entered for a chance to win a super cool prize! I recently went to a shower that did this. On the invite, you can use a little poem, "A bag of diapers for lil' ol me, would really help mommy to be. So please bring a bag of any size, did I mention it could win you a really great prize???"?

Decor, Food, Etc.?

*Decorate in a gender neutral theme or don't do a theme at all. Some ideas would be sports, tiki, etc. For a sports themed, you can make snack filled centerpieces for the tables like the one included here. This was at a friend of mine's Boston Red Sox themed baby shower! It's even cuter since they named their new son Boston.?

*Finger sandwiches aren't going to cut it for a co-ed shower. Consider a barbecue or maybe a fun Mexican fiesta complete with a taco bar! And make sure you have PLENTY of food to feed these hungry guys!?

*Send everyone home with a little favor box thanking them for coming. Little treat boxes with personalized candy bars, cookies, etc. are a great choice. You can also purchase personalized ribbon for favors to add a special touch!

* Finally, to help you along, you might consider getting a male co-host to help you with planning. It would probably be beneficial to have a guy's input on the games, decor, food, etc.?

Djokovic holds off Wawrinka; Sharapova advances

(AP) ? Novak Djokovic held off a valiant Swiss player for a 5-hour, five-set victory Sunday night, extending his winning streak to 18 matches at the Australian Open and then ripping off his shirt to celebrate.

The big surprise: It was a fourth-round match against Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland, not a final against Roger Federer.

Djokovic edged the 15th-seeded Wawrinka 1-6, 7-5, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 12-10 in a momentum-swinging marathon, cashing in on his third match point to reach the quarterfinals for a 15th consecutive major tournament.

The style was reminiscent of his 5-hour, 53-minute final win here last year against Rafael Nadal.

"He deserved equally to be a winner of this match," said Djokovic, who is aiming to be the first man in the Open era to win three consecutive Australian titles. "I give him a lot of credit. He has all my respect. He was the aggressive player on the court. I was just hanging in there trying to fight."

Djokovic had beaten Wawrinka ? the perennial No. 2 among Swiss tennis players to 17-time major winner Federer ? in their 10 previous matches. He hadn't lost a head-to-head since 2006 and had won 11 straight sets between them.

The win "brings back the memories from 12 months ago with Rafa," he said. "We are midway through the tournament but it feels like a final to me."

Djokovic next faces Tomas Berdych, the 2010 Wimbledon finalist who advanced with a 6-3, 6-2, 7-6 (13) win over South Africa's Kevin Anderson.

Wawrinka was cramping and needed massages on both legs in the fifth set. He was so tired he decided not to challenge a decision on a call that went against him ? wrongly, according to TV replays.

But he didn't think it made a difference in the end.

"In five sets, five hours, you always have some opportunity to win a set or to win the match," he said. "If you don't take it, he's going to take it.

"It's by far my best match I ever play, especially in five sets against the No. 1 player ... full house. At the end I was really, really close. For sure I'm really sad. ... But I think there is more positive than negative."

Fourth-seeded David Ferrer won 6-2, 6-1, 6-4 over No. 16 Kei Nishikori of Japan to set up an all-Spanish quarterfinal against Nicolas Almagro, who was leading 6-2, 5-1 when No. 8 Janko Tipsaveric retired from their fourth-round match.

Maria Sharapova has had almost no trouble on the women's side, beating Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium 6-1, 6-0 earlier Sunday to continue a dominant and unparalleled run in Melbourne.

The late-finishing men's match almost changed the complexion of the tournament.

Critics who questioned if anybody could challenge Djokovic, Federer and U.S. Open champion Andy Murray in the absence of Nadal at this tournament got an answer quickly.

Wawrinka stunned the top-ranked Djokovic with three service breaks in the first set and led 5-2 in the second before the 25-year-old Serb rallied by winning six consecutive games. But just as Djokovic seemed to be taking control of the match, Wawrinka launched his own comeback to win a long tiebreaker and force a fifth set.

Djokovic got to serve first in the fifth, giving him a psychological edge as long as he held his serve. In the end, Wawrinka didn't quite have the big-time experience.

Wawrinka had game point in the 22nd game but let Djokovic get on a roll. He saved his first match point with a service winner, then saved another.

At 1:40 a.m. local time, Wawrinka was whacking his head with the racket and biting the ball after giving Djokovic another match point. Moments later, he was slumped on the court.

Djokovic raised both arms, walked to the net and embraced his beaten rival, then pulled of his shirt and flexed ? shades of the 2012 final.

The second-ranked Sharapova has lost only five games in four matches on the way to the quarterfinals, an Australian Open record that seems immaterial to the 25-year-old Russian.

"Well, I'm certainly happy to be playing this well but ... it only gets tougher from here," said Sharapova, who is playing her first tournament of 2013 after withdrawing from a warm-up event at Brisbane because of an injured right collarbone.

Steffi Graf conceded only eight games in her opening four matches here in 1989, when she won the second of her three straight Australian Open titles. Monica Seles matched that mark.

Sharapova has been even more dominant. She started with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins ? the first time that has happened at a major tournament since 1985 ? and then beat seven-time Grand Slam winner Venus Williams 6-1, 6-3 in the third round.

Sharapova next plays fellow Russian Ekaterina Makarova, who ousted fifth-seeded Angelique Kerber 7-5, 6-4. Sharapova beat Makarova in the quarterfinals here last year before losing the final to Victoria Azarenka.

Li Na, who reached the final here in 2011 and won the French Open later that year, saved a set point in the tiebreaker before beating Julia Goerges 7-6 (6), 6-1. She'll next play No. 4 Agnieszka Radwanska, who beat No. 13 Ana Ivanovic 6-2, 6-4 for her 13th consecutive win. Radwanska won the Auckland and Sydney titles before coming to Melbourne.

Church in Mali welcomes military intervention

17 January 2013

Christian leaders in Mali welcomed the arrival of French troops last weekend to push back the Islamists who have seized control of the north of the country.

Fr Edmond Dembele, secretary of the Malian bishops' conference, told the Rome-based news agency Fides that the Malian population was "greatly comforted" by the French military intervention. He said: "Even the people in the north, occupied by the rebels, look with hope to the military operations."

The priest was speaking as French pilots carried out air strikes on the towns of Douentza, Timbuktu and Gao early this week. Reports suggested the Islamists had fled before the jets arrived.

A Baptist pastor from Timbuktu, who fled to the US last year after rebels issued death threats against him, told The Tablet that the international community needed to commit more troops to overthrowing the Islamists. Pastor Nouh Yattara said: "The troops coming are just in the 100s but the terrorists are in their 1000s. We need more international collaboration."

France has 750 troops in Mali and on Tuesday President Francois Hollande said that number would increase.

Mali crisis: France moves troops to the front line

Published: 16 January, 2013, 07:13

French troops in Mali have been deployed to frontline areas in a bid to stop the advance of the Islamist insurgency. Meanwhile in the city of Gao, rebels reportedly cut telecommunications links to prevent residents from aiding the intervention force.

"); $(".tail_text").show(500); return false; }

?Thousands of French and Malian troops in armored vehicles are headed to the north of the capital, towards Diabaly, a strategic city seized by the rebels the day before, witnesses said. French airstrikes forced the country's Islamist insurgency to seek shelter in deserted territories, but they are still controlling vast northern areas of the country, including the city of Gao ? where residents claim all landlines and mobile phone communications have been cut.

?They cut communications. They accuse residents of giving information to the soldiers,? a local resident told AFP by satellite phone.

The engagement of ground troops comes after five days of heavy bombardment of rebel-controlled areas by the French Air Force and the announcement that the French government was increasing the number of troops on the ground from 800 to 2,500.

But experts feel that the latest intervention makes the participating states vulnerable on the domestic front.

?By launching this campaign, which the jihadi extremists will use to create a ?holy war,? this sets up the tension for more terrorist activity ? and instead of terminating or containing this conflict in Mali, what the US and the French are doing is spreading it and endangering their own security,? Lawrence Freeman from the Intelligence Review Magazine, told RT.

The military chiefs of the neighboring West African states met in Bamako, the capital, to discuss the deployment of a UN-mandated 3,300-strong regional intervention force.

Although over a dozen countries have voiced support for the intervention in Mali, so far only France has boots on the ground.

A number of African countries have promised to send troops into Mali, including Nigeria, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Niger and Guinea. Nigeria, the only country equipped to send soldiers into the conflict zone on short notice, has pledged 900 of its troops to aid the French. Nigerian Defense Ministry spokesperson Col. Mohammed Yerima said 190 soldiers would be deployed in Mali on Wednesday with hundreds more expected to arrive in the next few days.

The United States is aiding the combat mission with logistical support and intelligence-gathering assistance. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta reiterated on Tuesday that no American troops will be sent in Mali.

Oregon athletics director Rob Mullens speaks about the departure of head football coach Chip Kelly and the school's resulting hiring search during an NCAA college news conference, Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at the Casanova Center in Eugene, Ore. After dramatically opting to stay with the No. 2 Ducks a little more than a week ago, the enigmatic Kelly changed his mind and decided to take an NFL job as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. (AP Photo/The Register-Guard, Brian Davies)

(AP) ? Moments after Chip Kelly's plane landed, he was handed a new Eagles visor and received a warm greeting from fans gathered at the airport.

Welcome to Philadelphia, Coach.

The Eagles hired Kelly on Wednesday, just 10 days after he decided to stay at Oregon. The 49-year-old Kelly, known as an offensive innovator, becomes the 21st coach in team history and replaces Andy Reid, who was fired on Dec. 31 after a 4-12 season.

He'll be introduced at a news conference Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Eagles' practice facility.

"The challenge is what I was excited about and that's why I came," Kelly told a group of reporters upon landing in Philly. "I was sold on the Eagles the first time I met them, it was my ties to Oregon that made it hard. But the Eagles are the Eagles. This is the NFL.

"My dream is to just win, and with the Eagles, this was the best opportunity for me to win. I never thought a long time ago that I was going to be able to coach in the NFL but I'm excited about the opportunity."

General manager Howie Roseman gave Kelly the white Eagles visor, the trademark hat he wore at Oregon. Kelly then got a glimpse of what this team means to this city.

Not only were Roseman and president Don Smolenski waiting for him on the runway ? they arrived with a police escort ? there were fans, decked out in green, waiting outside on a cold, dreary night.

"I know it's a rabid fan base," Kelly said. "I hope they don't boo me. It's an exciting time and I'm ready to get to work."

Kelly, who was 46-7 in four years at Oregon, interviewed with the Eagles, Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills in a two-day span after leading the fast-flying Ducks to a victory over Kansas State in the Fiesta Bowl Jan. 3.

The Eagles are known to have interviewed 11 candidates, including two meetings with Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley. All along, Kelly was thought to be Philadelphia's first choice in a long, exhaustive process that took many twists.

"Chip Kelly will be an outstanding head coach for the Eagles," owner Jeffrey Lurie said in a statement. "He has a brilliant football mind. He motivates his team with his actions as well as his words. He will be a great leader for us and will bring a fresh energetic approach to our team."

On the day he fired Reid, Lurie appeared to be describing Kelly when he said he wanted to find a "real smart, forward-thinking coach" who is "strategic, a strong leader, very comfortable in his own skin."

The enigmatic Kelly reportedly was close to signing with the Browns after a long interview Jan. 4. He met with the Eagles for nine hours the next day, setting up a soap-opera scenario in which the Eagles were competing with Browns CEO Joe Banner, their former president and longtime friend of Lurie who left the organization after a falling out. But that roller coaster ended when Kelly opted to remain ? temporarily ? in Eugene, Ore.

The Eagles interviewed two other high-profile college coaches ? Penn State's Bill O'Brien and Notre Dame's Brian Kelly. Both elected to stay with their schools.

Bradley was considered by many to be the leading contender, though former Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt and former Ravens coach Brian Billick were in the mix.

That all changed when Kelly had a change of heart.

Kelly built Oregon into a national powerhouse in a short time. The Ducks went to four straight BCS bowl games ? including a bid for the national championship against Auburn two seasons ago ? and have won three conference championships.

Kelly originally went to Oregon in 2007 as offensive coordinator under Mike Bellotti. Before that, he was offensive coordinator at New Hampshire, where he started devising the innovative hurry-up offense the Ducks are known for now.

Oregon finished last season 12-1. The team was ranked No. 1 and appeared headed for another shot at the national championship until a 17-14 loss to Stanford Nov. 17.

Ducks athletic director Rob Mullens said Wednesday that Kelly called him at 7:15 a.m. PST to tell him he had changed his mind: "He wasn't sure if that opportunity would present itself again, so he felt this was the right one at the right time."

Mullens now faces a coaching search amid recruiting season.

"I've turned the page," Mullens said. "I was surprised when I got the call this morning, but as the leader of this organization, my focus is on moving forward and that's what we're doing. I'm laser focused on what's next, and that's finding the right fit to lead Oregon football."

It's unknown whether the possibility of NCAA sanctions based on Oregon's use of recruiting services factored into Kelly's reversal. He indicated in Arizona that he isn't running from anything.

"We've cooperated fully with them," he said. "If they want to talk to us again, we'll continue to cooperate fully. I feel confident in the situation."

Kelly doesn't have any pro coaching experience, but aspects of his up-tempo offense are already being used by New England and Washington.

The Eagles fired Reid after two forgettable years. A late flurry brought the team to an 8-8 finish last season, but this season, Philadelphia endured an eight-game losing streak, and dropped 11 of its final 12. A 3-1 start soon washed away, and Reid's 14-year tenure ended not long after. Within a week, Reid was Kansas City's new coach.

Still, Kelly has tough shoes to fill. Reid won more games than any coach in franchise history and led the Eagles to nine playoff appearances, six division titles, five conference championship games and one Super Bowl berth.

Kelly and the Eagles have the No. 4 overall pick in the draft as well as some talented players on offense who could fit his scheme. Running back LeSean McCoy and receivers DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin seem like ideal matches. Quarterback Nick Foles, however, isn't.

"I've never run the zone read," Foles said after the season. "I'm more of a dropback guy. I've been under center. I've been in the gun. If I can adapt, I want to. But I'm not a zone-read quarterback. Some people are gifted with different things. That's just not one of my skill sets. I can work on the speed in the offseason and get better with that. But I've always been a dropback guy in the pocket. I've been able to make plays on my feet throwing the ball or running for a first down."

On the other hand, Michael Vick could be perfect. But it's unlikely the Eagles would want to pay the $16 million they'd have to shell out for an injury-prone quarterback, who will be 33 next season.

Kelly had high praise for Foles after Oregon beat Arizona 56-31 in September 2011.

"I'll tell you what; I'm glad Nick Foles is graduating," Kelly said at that time. "I catch myself watching him in awe sometimes. Nick is a hell of a football player. That kid's a warrior. He's as good as anyone in the country."

Others interviewed by Philadelphia were former Bears coach Lovie Smith, Atlanta assistants Mike Nolan and Keith Armstrong, former Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy and Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden.

The first Eagles to react to Kelly's hiring on Twitter were defensive players.

Defensive end Brandon Graham wrote: "Happy to have Chip Kelly!! Now it's time to get to work!"

Safety Kurt Coleman wrote: "Welcome Chip Kelly to the Eagles family. Can't wait to see what he brings to the team in 2013!"

As he walked by the fans at the airport, Kelly, dressed in jeans and a sweat shirt, stopped to sign some autographs and share some laughs with the faithful.

It indeed was a long journey. But if Wednesday is any indication, Kelly appears to fit right in with Philadelphia.
